XG Console / CLI access denied via Sophos Central

When I select "console" from the drop-down on the top right I get the following error message:

You do not have the privilege to access the page or perform the operation

Any ideas?

On a side note, I haven't tried the CLI locally since I'm not sure that wouldn't do terrible things to the config since it's managed via Sophos Central.

  • Hi

You need to try accessing the console via the XG web console (e.g - http://192.168.0.1:4444) and not via the firewall- Central Dashboard. let us know if you are still facing the same issue.

  • I could do that, but when I accessed the local GUI directly (i.e. not via Sophos Central) I ran into all kinds of issues when I tried to make changes. I was then told by Sophos that you can't access the FW both through SC and locally - you have to choose.

    1. Is it safe to make changes via the CLI locally if the FW is managed via SC?
    2. The local GUI does not reflect the changes that are made via SC. Does the CLI reflect those changes?

On a related note, shouldn't that link to the console at the top be fixed then or at least show some kind of helpful message?

You can make the changes via CLI locally irrespective of the Firewall being managed by Sophos central. I would advise you to be cautious about the changes that you make via CLI.

May I know what changes are you referring here? An example might help me in understanding your query.
