AD sync setup

Question

Hi, 
 can someone please advise me of the implications of doing an AD sync once I already have 500 users on the system? 
 
 is there anyway to do an AD system just to a specific OU and users only and exclude Groups?

 On using the AD sync tools, you will add AD users along with the existing list of users.
