Server Lockdown Exception for VMware Tools

Does anyone know how to make an exception for Vmware Tools in Server Lockdown or how specifically these exceptions work if the file is being pulled from a virtual drive with an ISO?

  • Hello,

What issue are you seeing, what is it you are trying to achieve? There are options in the policy that will allow you to add exceptions, but it helps to understand what you are trying to achieve and what Lockdown is preventing.

  • When I have to upgrade vmware tools and I load the ISO installer to upgrade them Lock Down blocks the MSI.  I am just seeing if anyone else has worked through this?  Does Lock Down block all ISO's loaded virtually as a CD-ROM?

  • Lockdown does control and monitor MSI files, so if the file wasn't present at the time of Lockdown it will not be allowed to run.

You will either have to allow the application or its containing folder in the Lockdown policy in Central; or Unlock the Server whilst you perform the upgrade.
