Change IP Address of the on-prem Enterprise Console Server

In preparation of a move, we need to change the LAN IP address of the EC Server. I'm seeing conflicting information regarding how to do this. For example some material says you have to install the client all over again on every protected server. Some say there may be a script. I am running version 5.50. I'd love to get a step by step process from someone in the know. Or a reference to the proper documentation. I've tried the latter but without much success. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello Ed Hart,

no action might be necessary if you can guarantee that the current IP isn't reused.

I assume the current address is static and your endpoints are updating from this server and the updating policies contain the server's name (NetBIOS or FQDN), no configuration has been applied to RMS (edited mrinit.conf, changed the ServiceArgs - if you don't know what I'm referring to then you probably haven't done it).
Updating would continue to work as a name and not an IP is used. Communication (endpoint management, endpoints reporting) relies on mrinit.conf. It is created during SEC installation and contains IPv4,IPv6,FQDN,NetBIOS of the server. NetBIOS is always present, the rest depends (I'm not going into details here). When endpoints try to locate the management server they try to connect to the IP first, subsequently the other addresses. Eventually they should succeed (according to Jak's post it could take up to five minutes, though I think it's now less - anyway this isn't really a problem).

The above is explained in more detail in Considerations when changing the IP address of the Sophos server and articles linked from it.
