Sophos Server Protection on Hyper-V Host

I'm debating whether it's necessary/worth it to install Sophos Server Protection on a Hyper-V Host.

On one hand, a Hyper-V host has no file shares and nothing exposed to the end users, so it shouldn't need any protection.

On the other hand, what are other server admins doing?  Is it best-practice to have AV on ALL servers, regardless of roles?

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for the question. From a security standpoint, we would not advice against installing AV on your Hyper V host as it only adds to the safety of the Server.  We would certainly recommend use of AV on all servers regardless of its roles as a part of 0 compromise approach in terms of server security.
