Pending Sophos reboot blocking windows updates

Question

Our infrastructure team reported an issue that server with pending reboots for Sophos were blocking the installation of windows updates until the server was rebooted.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

As far as servers go, how do people typically handle Sophos updates to servers and pending reboots. We currently don’t pause updates on servers, but if Sophos updates require a reboot before windows updates can be deployed, we will need to figure something out.

Hi Scott Graham,

You may be seeing this situation when a driver gets updated, as it will require a reboot (which may then prevent other things from installing until reboot takes place). This external article covers a way to check if you have any pending reboots .
If that's not your case, can you please provide more details about your environment and what are you seeing? Are there any error messages present?

Pausing updates will allow you to control deployment and plan your reboots accordingly. Please take a look at this article for more information.
