Sophos Endpoint Security and Control - server reboot

Hi all,

We use Sophos Endpoint Security and Control on our application servers within our company.

Whats is the recommended reboot frequency (once a month, twice a month, once a week, ?) for rebooting our servers for optimal protection by Sophos Endpoint Security and Control?

Best regards

Matthijs

  • Hello Matthijs,

[I'm not Sophos, just my opinion]
there's no reboot frequency recommendation. No reboot is required for the regular updates to be effective. Major upgrades result in a Restart needed ... message, due to the replacement of certain DLLs, notably for BOPS (sophos_detoured), Web Protection (swi_*), and EXP (hmpalert), occasionally (very rarely) because of new functionality.
An immediate reboot is not required as the previous DLLs are compatible with the other changed components and continue to work. Naturally, for optimal protection you should reboot "at your earliest convenience". A schedule isn't ideal as there is no fixed date or day for upgrade roll-outs. With once a month you might reboot just before the upgrade, more frequent is unnecessary as there are several months between major upgrades.
