SEC to Cloud - Migrate Servers or Endpoint first?

I currently have approx 350 endpoints & 10 servers in SEC 5.5.0. I've got the Cloud Migration app.

Those 10 servers are all at remote sites and all currently serve as Sophos Update Servers.

Is it best for me to uninstall the Update servers and install them with Server Protection (and configure them in Cloud to be cache's) or to update the clients first, let them update from Sophos Cloud, and do the servers last?

It looks like the Migration App won't install onto a server where SUM is installed anyway. But have got a way to at least get the migration report & migrate a few clients.

Thank you.

  • Hello aponzo,

correct, servers hosting a SUM can't be migrated with the utility.
Whether to transmute your SUMs (and management server) into caches depends on network topology and bandwidth considerations. With Central the endpoints "talk" to and update from the cloud. Of course a cache saves uplink bandwidth but you can't assign a specific cache server to a group of endpoints (please see How do computers update from a cache).
