SCCM Task Sequences failing when Sophos Central Server Protection installed on Server

We are having an issue with Sophos Central Server Protection installed on our SCCM Server.

We have had an abnormally high number of failures around Task Sequence deployments lately.  We have discovered that when we disable Sophos on the SCCM Server, the imaging starts to work again.

We have the below exclusions on the server currently:

*.ldf File or folder (Windows) Real-time and scheduled ×
*.mdf File or folder (Windows) Real-time and scheduled ×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Inboxes\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Logs\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\Program Files\SMS_CCM\ServiceData\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\SMS_DP$\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\SMSPKG?\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\SMSPKG\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\SMSPKGSIG\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\SMSSIG$\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
*:\Windows\CCM\ServiceData\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\ File or folder (Windows) Real-time only ×
%windir%\CCM\Ccmexec.exe Process (Windows) ×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\X64\sitecomp.exe Process (Windows)×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\X64\smsexec.exe Process (Windows)×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\X64\smssqlbkup.exe Process (Windows)×
*:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\X64\smswriter.exe Process (Windows)×

Has anyone else seen similar behavior?  Are there any exclusions that appear to be missing on the server?

During imaging, the Task Sequence is failing before Sophos is installed on the client side.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

This is not something I have seen reported before. Please can you advise what you do to disable Sophos? Are you disabling all of the services, or is there a specific service that appears to be the issue?

It would be useful to try and disable specific services to help us pinpoint the root cause, if you haven't already.

    Regards,

    Stephen

  • Our desktop team has been turning off all of the services unfortunately.

My next step is going to be disabling one option at a time, but it is going to be very time consuming unfortunately to pin point it.
