Sophos Central Windows Server Protection – Remote Desktop (Terminal) Services (KB 127299)

This line raises a question:

"In addition to a Server license for the server, all Users connected to the Server will also consume an endpoint license."

If each user already consumes a license for their endpoint, will an RDP connection to a protected server consume an additional license? Or since it's a user license, will the same license apply to both the user's endpoint and their RDP session on the server?

  • So all users in the last 30 days take up an extra ENDPOINT license?

What about users on a dumb terminal that can't run endpoint?

    What about the administrator user(s)?

We have a client where most staff have 2 logins (EG: John1, John2, Sam1, Sam2), so they now need literally double the licenses they did before?

  • Hi Tim,

Not all users, just users that don't currently exist in the Sophos Central account that the RDS server is in. Users on a dumb terminal are benefiting from the protection on the Server, so, as per our EULA they would consume a user license. This is also true of admins that login.
