I can't get into my laptop at all.

I can't get into my laptop at all because the Sophos has locked it. I am using an old  company laptop and have done for two years. It is an HP 8760 with Windows 7. The safeguard log-in came up as usual but it said my password had failed and now it is locked. As this is a laptop I have from a former employer I do not have any admin support.  I am in a real bind as I have everything on this laptop.

Now I am locked out how and can't get passed the log-on screen, is there any way I can bypass the log-in screen and get to my desktop?

  • Hello Doug Gordon,

this isn't really a Central question, is it, as you mention SafeGuard?

The purpose of encryption is to prevent unauthorized access to a device and its data. Wouldn't be suitable if there were a backdoor, would it?
Question is whether the drive is encrypted - if it isn't booting from an alternative source or slaving the disk will permit access to the data. If it is encrypted then the log-in screen isn't the problem - even if you could bypass it this wouldn't give you access to the decryption key.
