We noticed yesterday afternoon (21st) that 30-ish of our servers have stopped the hmpalertsvc service and was unable to restart it, in concert with an "Failed to install Unknown: ." error in the console.
As a side effect we were unable to login to them: RDP had stopped working and ctrl+alt+del only results in a blank screen. Gina related?
After some investigating we've noticed that via an update this morning, the hmpalert.exe which was version 3.6.8.604 yesterday is now 3.6.14.616, which is undoubtedly the fix.
My question is, has anyone else had login issues over the last 48 hours? Is there a KB anyone could point out? Did you manage to fix it manually rather than via an update?
It appears this affected Symantec Backup Exec's ability to run scheduled backups as our backups all failed from the night of the 21st on the affected servers.
