Endpoint Protection: ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED

Hi,

Particular users who have had Sophos endpoint protection from Sophos Cloud installed on their pcs cant get to any websites on their browser. Chrome gives the error ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED.

 

We've had to uninstall the software for now, does anyone have an idea on whats going on? It works fine for other users so the policy seems fine.

    As a test you could disable the features Web Protection and Web Control.  I assume it's the local web proxy component causing what you describe but the following test would prove it:

    Under the Settings of the "Threat protection" policy, the 2 Web Protection features to disable are:

    • Scan downloads in progress.
    • Block access to malicious websites.

    Then under the Web Control policy you can disable that.

    With all three options disabled, connections from the browser to straight out rather than via swi_fc.exe if on Windows 8.1+ and not proxied within the browser process on Windows 7.

    It could just be the web control feature if you're blocking all the sites they are visiting.
