WORRISOME: Sophos Anti-Virus Stops Working

Hi here,

Today my Sophos shut off without warning, and it has done this other times, too.

First off: why?

What can I do?

How can I know if Sophos is working properly?

Thank you so much for your help! I am an artist and consider Banksy's arrest symbolic: are artists safe anywhere??

    I have been getting the Sophos Is not Running message when I turn on my computer in the morning, but when I check my preferences it says the on access scanner is working.

    I am using Mavericks 10.9.5 on a 2008 MacBook Pro, Sophos version 9.2.2
