I'm not allowed to update my software?

My school has a strict policy on having anti virus. I decided to download your free program. My school's internet basically said "hey! not good enough! your program hasn't been updated in more than two weeks!".  So I went to update it, and it wouldn't let me. It said I needed a password and username (which I'm not even allowed to type in because it's grey and unavailable) This is incredibly frustrating. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello imlaurahahaa,

Sophos should automatically check for updates every hour. If the update fails the black  icon changes to  . If you click on the icon the first line on the menu could be Up To Date or Autoupdate Is Not Configured in case of the "S" icon, for the "x" it could be Failed to Download Update or AutoUpdate Is Not Running. Assuming AutoUpdate is configured and running there's Update Now in the second line of the menu. Now the question is - what does the first line say? So I went to update it, and it wouldn't let me - did you click Update Now from the menu or what did you do to initiate the update? If you go to Preferences->AutoUpdate the field Update from Primary Location should say Sophos. If it's there where it says A user name and password are required ... then the credentials have not been set correctly during install or "disappeared" later - running the install again should correct this.
