Sophos Antivirus 8.0.6 Suggestion

Sophos Anti-virus is no doubt the best free anti-virus solution out there. I love it and want to continue to use it on my mac but because of a small irrritant, it is proving to be a deal breaker for me.

I am using OSX Mountain Lion on my mac and I heavily use launch pad to launch different apps. As I have over 100 apps installed on my mac so I have divided my launch pad into folders and categories. I have noticed an unusual bevaior of Sophos Antivirus whenever it updates (once or twice in a day). Whenever it updates, its icon comes out of the Antivirus folder into the open (on launch pad) and I have to put it back every time. It doesn't happen in any other apps.

Can this problem be corrected? I would appreciate if anybody has any ideas.

  • I'll have a think about that one.  The issue is that it uses its own update system instead ov the App Store, and it appears the metadata used to categorize within LaunchPad is being lost with the updates.

So far, for me the inflexibility of LaunchPad has kept me from using it; instead, I have an alias to the Applications folder in my dock, keep common items in  my dock, but mostly use command-space <type first few letters of app> to launch apps.

You could try something like LaunchPad Control to remove Sophos altogether from the LaunchPad as well -- after all, you can already launch it from the menu item.
