Sophos Antivirus for Mac just quits in the middle of a scan when booted from USB drive

I have Sophos Antivirus for Mac installed on a USB disk.  To run the software, I boot from that USB disk and then run the Sophos Antivirus for Mac on my internal HDD.  Usually it gets about 80% of the way through and then the Sophos Antivirus for Mac just quites.  No indication in the log of any problem.  Just the program is no longer running.  If I open it and look to see if it complete the scan it did not (by the last date scanned info.).  So how to I get Sophos Antivirus for Mac to complete its run on my internal HDD while booted from a USB drive?

  • So basically you're slaving the Mac's hard drive to run a scan?  I don't think it's designed for that and hence who know what may happen.

Maybe try SBAV if you want the drive slaved/all files and the OS offline while a scan is done.

  • When you run from the USB disk, do you have Sophos set *not* to get any automatic updates?

I have not tested Sophos 9 yet (as I can't install it over 8 because we have a "managed" install...), but Sophos 8 will just quit the GUI any time an automatic update to the definitions file is installed.

(Has anybody actually tried to see if that's still a problem with Sophos 9?)
