Nothing happens!

Well!   I bought myself a Macbook Air a few months ago and I'm still trying to come to terms with the Apple way of doing things.  I was frightened by an article about the Trojan Flashback and, on the recommendation of the article, decided to load the free Sophos anti-virus software.

I have downoaded, I think, the Sophos anti-virus for Mac Home edition.  I hope this is correct as my Mac Air has OSX Lion.  My downloads list has a file entitled savosx_80_80-2.dmg of 88.2MB.  Nothing happened after the download and I can't make head or tail of the video that professes to instruct on the installation of this software.

The first thing the video tells me is, "looking at the before-you-install-document".   Whoa!  Where is this b-y-i-document?  I don't even get the window (if you'll pardon the word) that is shown on the video.

By the way, my label "hac" stands for "haven't a clue".

Can anybody out there please help me?

  • When dealing with Macs, you'll find that almost everything you download comes in either a zip file or a dmg file.  DMG files are disk image files, and are mounted as virtual drives by double clicking them in the Finder.  This step is automatically done by default if you're using Safari as your web browser.

So, in the Finder, you should see a disk show up -- either on the desktop, or with a Finder window open, under the Devices section of the sidebar.  If you look inside that virtual disk, you'll find the software installer and the b-y-i document.
