It doesn't put an icon on the dock; and should it take several hours?

I have installed it twice. Neither time did it put a black shield icon in my dock.

So I went into my applications folder and found it (blue shield). So I clicked and went to Scan on the top menu and chose "scan local drives."

That was several hours ago and it's only 1/4 done. Is that normal?

Thanks,

Natasha

  • The black shield icon should be in your menu bar on the top right hand side of your screen, next to WiFi, Bluetooth, etc., not in your dock.

The "scan local drives" option decompresses and analyses all compressed content -- zip files, dmg images, jar files, etc.  If you have a lot of archived content, this can take quite a while.

To speed things up, you can start by doing a custom scan with the option to scan inside archives disabled.  This will be significantly faster, with the downside that anything malicious hidden in an archive will not be detected (until you expand the archive, at which point on-access scanning will catch it).
