backing up time machine

I want to install sav but am running Time Machine and am a bit nervous after reading other posts in this forum about the interaction of sav and time machine.

I would like to make a backup or copy of the time machine backups I already have before installing sav.

Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

I am running a macbook pro with the latest version of snow leopard.

    Thanks for that. I followed all your steps but after a dmg had been created, I got a nessage:

    Unable to create "backups.backupdb".(Operation not supported)

    I was trying to copy the backup from and external hard drive to the macbook hard drive.
