backing up time machine

I want to install sav but am running Time Machine and am a bit nervous after reading other posts in this forum about the interaction of sav and time machine.

I would like to make a backup or copy of the time machine backups I already have before installing sav.

Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

I am running a macbook pro with the latest version of snow leopard.

    1. switch off Time Machine
    2. attach/mount the volume that's used for Time Machine 
    3. on any other volume, have free space that's (much) greater than the mass of data on the Time Machine volume
    4. open Disk Utility
    5. select the volume that's used for Time Machine
    6. File menu | New | Disk Image from "…"
    7. in the Save As: dialogue, select a folder on other volume
    8. change the Image Format: from compressed to read-only
    9. Save
    10. after the image is complete, switch on Time Machine
    11. exclude from backups the image that you created!

    If you have masses of free space and patience, you might prefer a compressed image.
