printer failures

In the last week I have had two printers fail. One is on an iMac and the second is on a PC. Is there malware out there that is specific to disabling printers?

    it's not unthinkable, but implausible. Apart from the failures (any details?), are there other common factors - same/similar printer, some "utility" for both system recently downloaded from the same source, same document(s) printed on both printers? If there's none then I'd rather suspect a malicious process called ageing in conjunction with coincidence.
