Sophos AV removal has been running several days

I run 64 bit W7 w/ 4 GB RAM.

Sophos detected two items, I ran remove and it completed. I ran it again, it detected one item. It says the threat is in one of my USB drives.


It has been running for several days. The Task Manager and Resource Manager detect only very small amount activity, and no perceptiable disk activity on the disk where it claims to be cleaning.

I can't stop it. What is going on?

    My free AVT hasn't been running for days, but it has been a couple of hours and nothing has moved.  It appears to be scanning and rescanning (and rescanning!) the same area over and over again.  The line at the top of the window hasn't moved, the names of the files being scan just keep rotating and it still says "Number of threats found 0."

    Surely this isn't how it's supposed to work?
