Mal/EncPk SD detected on my Mac running Snow Leopard

Hi there,

Sophos detected Mal/EncPk SD in a RAR file I was expanding on my Mac running OS X 10.6.8  (Snow Leopard ), and the threat was cleaned up automatically. According to http://www.sophos.com/en-us//threat-center/threat-analyses/viruses-and-spyware/Mal~EncPk-SD.aspx , this is a Trojan from 2010 that affects Windows systems.

Do I need to be worried at all about my system? I'm running a scan of all my local drives right now, everything appears to be fine.  I am logged into an account without admin privelages, I have a firewall setup, and all sharing is off.

Thoughts?

:smileyvery-happy: ok, as you've found it it's a threat targeting Windows. Thus it won't affect your Mac (but you could pass it on to a Windows system). Furthermore as cleanup was successful and it seems no longer to be found there's nothing to worry about - except: Where did you get it from? It's probably not the most reputable source.

  • Thanks Christian, I was asking these questions out of an abundance of caution, realizing that my computer was probably fine. I don't remember where I got that file, but the scare it put into me has made me even more cautious about my surfing and general computer security.
