My Yahoo email and IM has been hacked

My yahoo account has been penetrated on my Mac computer. A virus is going through all of my contacts and randomly selects 3 contacts and emails them from what appears to be my account. My free Sophos trial version was able to locate some files, which I deleted. However, it hasn't helped to stop more damage. Currently someone is going online in my Yahoo Messenger, is using my photo and is posing as me, trying to get my contacts to take an IQ test. This happened when I was asleep and my computer was off! Although Sophos found some contaminated files and I manually removed them...this new IM hacker is occurring. I have a MAC single processor with OSX 10.4.4. Sophos is not picking up anymore files or is able to prevent someone from hacking my email account. What can i do to permanently eliminate this hacker from my computer? Thanks!

Unfortunately I had the same issue with my account. It was two weeks ago and I didn't find the solution till this time.
Also I didn't find any connections with Sophos. Hope, somebody will help to find the way to recover the account as it contains many important pravite information.

I had this problem a little while ago with hotmail. The virus was not with my mac but indeed with hotmail. They recommended just changing my password and security questions and apoligizing to all my friends and collegues.

You have to be so careful I Know one time I signed up for some free stuff and silly me used my e mail address and then the same password for the stuff as I was using for my e mail and I was done. I never could get back into my e mail account again

unfortunately, it's just a matter of time before your email accounts are hacked. best to use a series of accounts to protect yourself. but in the end it is quite unavoidable unless you run your own server. :smileywink:

that's so right. my hotmail account has also been hacked. imagine my surprise when I was sending all my contacts stock tips on junk trades. I changed the passwords and all but I'm not actively using that account anymore. it is quite the pain.

Sounds like some of that is phishing .
Just be careful where you all put your email addresses.
This is why I have two personal email addresses. One main and one for possibly spammy sign-ups.
