Scan files after Emptying Trash

Hello All

New to this forum, first post. Here it goes.....

My teacher asked me to download a file from a website that rhymes with Dirate Spay. After clicking (what I am fairly certain was) the download button and attempting to install the Zip, sophos flipped out and said "Spyware Detected." I clicked Clean Up, but it seemed to take forever, so I paniced and simply moved the file to the Trash and then Emptied it (I DID NOT DO A "SECURE EMPTY").

I realize that was stupid, and that the file is still somewhere in my harddrive. I want to know if I can configure Sophos Anti Virus Home Edition to scan the entire hard drive INCLUDING files that have been emptied from the trash. I'm not even sure what to call these, so my description is not great.

I would appreciate any support. Thank you

If you emptied the trash you should be OK. If you wanted to scan just that folder I'd suggest..

Open Terminal from Spotlight (press Cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight and then type 'Terminal' and select the app).

Type:

sudo sweep ~/.Trash/

...and press enter/return. Then type in your admin password (the password you enter when you install something). The password won't appear on screen but it's being entered - just press enter/return when you have typed it.

When the scan finishes it should look something like this (and viruses with be reported at the bottom)...
