Overzealous custom scans

Hello. I have tried looking through the forums and couldn't find an answer, but please forgive me if I missed it. My issue is this: I have been using custom scans to check programs I've downloaded before I install them, which have usually been games of recent. This is usually straight forward, excpet certain games will scan WAY more than the file that I denoted to scan. If I add one program to a custom scan, SAV will be 'calculating' beforehand, to reach an eventual number of 700,000+ items to scan. Hence, scans take much longer than one would initially expect, given the size of the original file to be scanned. Furthermore, I can tell it is scanning other files on my computer at this time, as I can see SAV stop on certain large files that take longer. The only thing I can think of is that these games are ports of PC versions made playable on a Mac using different programs, but I still have no idea why this would happen.  Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hello genial,

it's not clear whether you have On-Access scanning and Web Protection turned on (which is recommended). In this case it wouldn't be necessary to "manually" scan the file (please see Manually Scan Downloads for details).

Do you set up a custom scan or scan from the context menu? If these files are archives and scan inside archives is turned on (which is the default) there can be quite a lot of items to scan, though 700.000+ seems too many. Do you have a examples of the [other] certain large files that take longer
