sophos mac auto update on reboot

Hi

I'm on Mavericks 10.9.5 and Sophos 9.1.5.

I have turned Auto Update turned off in preferences. I have noticed though that if I need to reboot my mac for some reason, upon logging back in the CPU is busy because Sophos is trying to connect to the Auto Update server. This doesn't happen if I am logging in normally, it just happens after a reboot.

Any ideas?
