Scan Will not complete with Compressed Files Selected

Hi there;

As of the latest version (IE: after 14 Nov 2013 when I successfully scanned with no problems) Sophos will not complete a scan of my Mac, if I ask it to scan inside Compressed files. Uncheck that option and it will work fine.

It always stops at a specific number of files remaining (presumably the same file hangs it up? - how could I check??) and eventually gives up.

I would like to do thorough scans so I want to have Compressed Files selected.

What can I do to make this work?

  • It's hard to see exactly what the scanner is sticking on as the files being scanned aren't naturally output - too fast to see and would generally put a burden on the scanner so the option to do this hasn't really been looked at.

    However there is something you could try.  See my post at the top of page two on this post...

    That may help.  Bear in mind that it may not be sticking on the same file every time (which can confuse things).

    You may want to look around for installer bundles etc. (like in the Downloads folder for example) and remove what isn't required.  Maybe have a general clean out of unnecessary files - why scan stuff you don't need any more?

    The other thing to try is to experiment with comparmentalizing the scan to certain folders.  Try setting up a custom scan to a particular folder or folders and see if the scan runs OK.  Gradually increase the areas scanned until a problem occurs.
