“Scan now with Sophos Anti-Virus” not available in Snow Leopard context menu

Something is radically wrong. All of a sudden I no longer have the “Scan now with Sophos Anti-Virus” item in Finder context menus. To make things worse, when I open the Sophos app, there is no File->Open menu item, and if I drag a file to the dashboard icon, I get the open dialog with the first opening time warning.

I uninstalled the previous version and rebooted and installed the latest version (8.0.16C) and did a complete system disk scan. After hours and hours of scanning the system drive, the 'View Scan Log' and 'Scan Settings' are greyed out. BTW only one threat was found and cleaned. It was a Windows executable so no worry any way. I rebooted after that to see if things were restored to normal and they weren't.

So what is going on? Do I have some malware that Sophos can't detect or what?

  • No reply after a week... So that's the kind of support we can expect. I guess I have to do everything myself.

I don't know why it disappeared, and this still disturbs me, but I finally found a little-known app that enabled me to restore the item to the context menu. It had been unchecked when I opened the app.
