I cannot manually cleanup detected threats

I ran the Sophos for Mac Home edition v 9.0.3 on a macbook pro running 10.6.8.  It found 3 threats which I asked it to cleanup.  Cleanup failed.  In the details area it said to cleanup manually.  Doing that seems to involve running a custom scan but I have not been able to make that work.  I cannot get the threat name to stay in the custom scan area whether I have added a scan or not - I drag it in and it bounces back.  Additionally, the "path and file name" line isn't live so clicking on it does no good - it won't drag.  I have read and reread the instructions but can't figure out what I am missing.

No problem - I want to get to the bottom of it.

The log you emailed is the on-access scanner log and not an on demand log - plus it doesn't show any detections.

    OK....

Can you open Quarantine Manager, authenticate with the padlock icon [1], select all the item you have in the list [2], then select 'Clear from List [3] (see screenshot below for guidance).

After that run a fresh 'Scan This Mac' scan and hopefully once complete there will actually be a scan log you can forward.

  •  I will do that--however, the last scan took three days. Is that normal?  I think a lot of the scan was my backup drive.  Is there a way to exclude that?

Back drives do cause the scan time to increase.  It's probably best to exclude it.  The video below explains the process...

  • Thank you.  Am scanning now.  Probably will take a couple of days, because although I scanned only the Mac, it shows over 7,000,000 items to be scanned.

  • I have run a scan three times, and they have been completed under 3 hours.  This is surprising, because the first scan took 4 days!  This is probably because my backup drive was scanned the first time, and I was getting multiple files of the same file that showed up as a "threat."

Now I get "No threats detected and Issues Found" but nothing shows up on the quarantine list.

I guess that I am good to go!

Thank you again for all of your time and assistance!!
