settings

I'm new here, and have Sophos newly installed on my Mac Pro. It seemed to work fine in my computer-guy's place, but now I can't seem to look at the settings option. It remains greyed out. I want to check because when the scan starts, it starts at "calculating..." and then jumps to over 300,000 files before it continues the scan.  I have checked the "scan all files" option.

How do I look at or change the settings, just to make sure they are set the way I need and want them to be?

  • When settings are greyed out, you will notice a lock in the lower-left of the frontmost window.  Click that lock button, and an authentication dialog will come up.  Enter your administrator credentials and you will have full access to the settings.

  • I'm brand new to Sophos Anti-Virus and have it downloaded for protection on my MacBook Pro. Is there anything I need to set to assure daily scan schedules?

The main thing you need to know is that you likely don't need daily scan schedules.  The main component of  Sophos Anti-Virus does on-access scanning, meaning whenever a file is created, read, or written to, the contents will be scanned.

If you run the on-access component with archive scanning disabled, it would probably be a good idea to do, say, a weekly or monthly scan.

For that, I'd create a custom scan set up to scan your system folders on a monthly basis, and another custom scan set up to scan your user folder on a weekly basis.  Schedule it with the schedule tab, and ensure you scan inside archives.

    Does that answer your question?
