Whys does my scan stop?

Stopped at 219,274 items remaining,

Unistalled, reinstalled....cant get complete scan!

stalls , still stalled after 20 hours, so more like stopped. Will not allow me to start scan from pull down menu.
Uninstalled and reinstalled software, still same problem.
