On-access scanning disabled

My on-access scanning is disabled. I am unable to make it come on and when I try to change a preference a window pops us saying that the "on-access scanner has failed to set preference"... Any suggestions?

    Same issue. Didn't try rebooting, but instead deleted following plists first:

    /Users/<my_username>/Library/Preferences/
        com.sophos.sav.plist
        com.sophos.ui.plist

    Then rebooted. Came up running.

    Funny - on macs, since the days of yore (pre-OS X), deleting preferences has always been the go-to solution. Nice that some things don't change.
