removing malware threat when action is to restart computer

After reading about the large number of mac viruses recently, I downloaded sophos and have been very impressed so far.  The software has detected 4 threats.  The 3 threats that included the action "clean up" were very easily taken care of and removed.  There is one malware threat that says to "restart computer" as the action.  I have done this multiple times and the threat continues to come up in the scans.  Are there other steps I should be taking?  Should I just clear it from the list?

  • Hello rmw80, what's the name of the threat (e.g. Mal/... Or OSX/...)? Also - if you just remove it from the list, does it return (run another scan to be sure)? Christian

  • "restart computer" likely indicates a Windows threat that has got into a strange state (this notice should not normally show up currently).  Removing from the list is fine; if it re-appears, some component didn't get removed.  Since the software involved does not even run on a Mac (it's likely a Windows Boot infector or Windows rootkit-like malware), you can use the QM to find the file path and just throw the file in the trash.
