But as a workaround, stop the Sophos Anti Virus Service and you'd be able to remove Sophos components.

That didnt help, still requires tamper protection password.  Any more ideas?

I would like to know , Which Product of Sophos antivirus you are currently using ? is it regarding Sophos Home or Cloud based Endpoint.

HI Drew, 

As you are using the Cloud-based Endpoint , that would mean that you have installed from Sophos Central .  Please refer the Steps to disable Tamper protection .

How to disable Tamper Protection

Disabling from Sophos Central

Per machine

1. Log in to the Sophos Central Dashboard.
2. Go to Computers.
3. Click to select the endpoint where tamper protection should be disabled.
4. On the Summary page, click Disabled Tamper Protection.

Globally

1. Log in to the Sophos Central Dashboard.
2. Go to System Settings.
3. Select General Settings > Tamper Protection
4. Disable Tamper Protection and then click Save.

Note : After updating the policy on Sophos Central . Make sure you update Cloud-based Endpoint installed . So it would fetch the updated policy and proceed with uninstallation.

I guess i jumped the  gun, sorry but this didn't help. General settings don't show hence not possible to go on with the procedures. (disabling from sophos central)
