On Access stopped working - cannot turn it back on - Mac OS 10.6

My Sophos On Access scan has stopped working. I am running Mac OS 10.6.8. Sophos is updated to version 9.0.11. The on-access scan was suddenly disabled yesterday, and I cannot re-enable it. When I open Sophos preferences, On Access tab, it says that "on access scanner is off". I click the lock to make changes, then I enter my administrative password, then I click "Start Scanning", but nothing happens. I cannot turn the On Access back on. I attached a screen shot of the Preferences. Please advise. What should I do?

Same answer:

1. Reboot and see if that helps the on-access scanner load.

2. Try the commands at the bottom of page three on this thread:

Sorry for the double post.
I tried to run those 2 scripts, and tried re-booting twice.
I still cannot enable the On Access Scan.

Quickest thing I can suggest is to uninstall the Application and reinstall.

Download: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition.aspx

Uninstall once downloaded: http://openforum.sophos.com/t5/Mac-tools-help/Remove-uninstall-Sophos-Anti-Virus-for-Mac-Home-Edition-the-free/td-p/14271

Reboot again after this if there is still a problem.
