Sophos Antivirus interfering with access to Pogoplug

I have been having some problems using Chrome to access my Pogoplug personal cloud storage equipment.   After a lot of detective work I determined that  the problem is caused by the Sophos realtime checking of accesses to suspicious websites.  It seems as if the access to my Pogoplug is somehow being interfered with by the Sophos website checker.

When I turn off the Sophos website checks, Chrome seems to be able to access my Pogoplug properly.  In the Sophos configuration settings there is supposed to be a way to allow specific websites to bypass the checking.  I tried to use the website name of "my.pogoplug.com/view" which I used to access my Pogoplug, but that didn't seem to work when I turned the Sophos checking back on.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for how I can configure Sophos to work properly with my Pogoplug.

Thanks.

  • Hello rvmeush,

Not sure which version of our product you are using, but if you aren't yet using the 9.1 preview I'd suggest starting there; we made a lot of improvements to the web filtering feature. Not that I can promise its magically resolved, but not a bad place to start.

In the preferences, under the Web Protection tab is a panel for Allowed Websites. You can enter IP addresses or domain names into that box. I'm guessing you'll have good luck with entering the Pogoplug's IP address, if they are using a fixed address. You can also try excluding their domain name, but due to the way that HTTP works it could be less effective at "working around" the issue than using the IP address itself.

Give me a shout if these aren't helping get to resolution. The next step will be to get some specific reproduction steps and we'll have to analyze the HTTP traffic.
