SophosWebIntelligence keeping Mac from connecting to the internet

So recently, I have been trying to find out why my Mac refused to connect to the internet. Today, its taken me all day but I found the problem.

After reinstalling OS X, running Diagnostics, changing router settings, and trying out Safari and Firefox from Chrome, I was ready to try a test user. I then took another look at the Sophos settings, and then Activity Monitor. I saw a process called SophosWebIntelligence at the top.

Curiously, I uninstalled Sophos, and it worked perfectly. I could access the internet. I thought it was just a glitch, so I reinstalled the software and resumed my browsing. Again, it started to slow down, so I checked Activity Monitor again. SophosWebIntelligence was taking up almost 1.5 GB in Memory!! I was unable to browse, but lo and behold, I killed the process and I was able to browse again!

So what is this process? Why is it keeping my Mac from Browsing? Is it safe to just turn off the Web Protection switches?
