Sophos and external hard disk drives

Hi. I was wondering if the Sophos'"Scan Local Drives" option scans my attached external drives (attached via USB and FireWire for example, not over a LAN) and if the "On Access" scanning also scans the similarly attached external drives?

"Scan Local Drives" does indeed scan non-networked drives. "On-Access" will scan any media where data is being read from/written to, if it is so configured.
