Computer infected-cant scan

I have a macbook pro, and downloaded sophos after experiencing some crashes and freezes that are not common for a new computer, later on i found out it could have been a software i installed, i think this software is infected and has infected my mac already, when i run sophos in order to get rid of this, it shows up that issues were detected, but it cant complete the scan because it starts to get laggy and after some time it just crashes and freezes the whole computer, making me reboot...

i dont know how to proceed as this seems to be already making sophos crash...
if u could help me...

  • If you're running a 'Scan This Mac' scan you can try unchecking the compressed files option to speed it up...

    de-select_compressed_files_scanning.gif

You can also try excluded other volumes (like external drives and Time Machine backups) to speed it up too...

Tip: The video above explains how to set up a custom scan and this allows you to break the scan down and only select certain folders.

If you need further help post back and include the version of Sophos Anti-Virus and Mac OS X.  Plus...

It helps to look in the logs to see what that reports and see if it gives any insight into the problem.  Post an extract of the associated scan log if possible.  See: Where are the logs for SAV for Mac?
