OS hangs on login

I recently installed Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition on my 2011 MacBook Pro, however I had a major issue with it that forced me to uninstall it. I found that after rebooting, I would sign in and then the OS would hang indefinitely. My computer was unusable because I could not sign in. I was able to repro this condition at least 6 times in a row. I eventually had to boot into Safe Mode to uninstall the software and as soon as I did, I rebooted and the OS was back to normal operation. Are there any known issues with this hardware or any information I can gather to help diagnose the problem?

    I've also had to de-install Sophos for exactly the same reason. Since de-installing I'm back to normal. I guess there might be a conflict with something else in my startup list, but I'm not using anything 'unusual' in the way of software. I'd be really interested to know how to find out.
