Menu bar shields

On this computer, a late 2010 MacBook Air running Mavericks, when I enable "Show Sophos Anti-Virus status in the menu bar", I get two shields. The computer has my administrator account and a guest account. Is this normal, or if not, does anyone know why this is the case and how I can get rid of one of the shields as it takes up unnecessary space on the menu bar.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't have this problem on my other computer, the late 2011 17" MacBook Pro, also running Mavericks. Unfortunately, I am not able to access that machine at the moment to check.

Thanks for any help or advice. :smileyhappy:

  • Thanks. I had already read that, and it didn't help. I also found that, yes, two processes were running, but when I killed one of them through the Activity monitor as recommended, the menu-bar shield went, then a new process started a few seconds later and the second shield appeared in the menu-bar. I simply couldn't kill the second process.

However, I did somwe further investigating and found I was actually running an old version of SAV, 8.0.2, I think. I uninstalled that, downloaded the current version and installed that and all seems to be well.

    Thanks for your help.
