Console Log: Scan Server shuts down and restarts every 6 seconds

SAV was running fine on my 10.8.5 system for quite some time.  It then stopped running and the console log (no message from SAV directly!) showed that the main AV DB was missing.  So I uninstalled and then downloaded and installed version 9.  Once up and running it completely hung my system - I could not get scans to stop and finally had to use the Activity Monitor to Force Quit, etc.  I have disabled, for now, on access scanning and Time Machine scanning.  But even with that all off, I am observing in the log that the series of messages

server Started

IDEs:

SAVI initialization failed

worker init failed....shutting down

Server stopped

<com.apple.launchd>  Throttling respawn:  Will start in 7 seconds

server started

over and over again, ever 6-7 seconds.  is this normal?

    Hello

    Can I add to this by saying I am getting exactly the same error and messages in the system logs.

    I have a 10.8.5 Mac Book Pro. Running Version 9.0.8 of Sophos Anti virus.

    I'd suggest giving v9.1 a try.

    Yesterday I started getting the same problem, using SAV 9.0 on OS X 10.9.4. Rebooting didn't help. Nothing had changed recently in my setup as far as I know. The SophosScanD was using 100% CPU and restarting every few seconds, the fan came on in my MacBook Air. I had to shut the process down using launchctl in the terminal.

    I read this thread and installed SAV 9.1.5 and rebooted. At first it was doing the same thing:

    2014-09-15 3:04:47.048 AM scanserver[515]: [main.m:119] server started!

    But then after some time it somehow sorted itself out I guess, and seems to be running normally now.
