Deleting Time Machine Threats

I have many threats in Time Machine backups.  I've followed the directions to find the file(s) but I do not have the option to delete them when i right click on the file.  The closest option is Move to Trash.

Is there a permission or similar I need to set?

  • This isn't directly answering your question (how to clean the files up), but have you thought about ignoring the alerts inside TM?  Because:

    • Those files won't be of interest to you so they won't be pulled out.
    • Are they even malicious to Mac OS X?  If they are for Windows malware why trouble yourself.
    • As TM fills up the drive the older back ups are deleted when space becomes a problem.  Hence they will vanish eventually.
    • It's a lot of trouble to get them out just to delete them.  If they ever got pulled out the real time scanner would alert you and you can deal with them then.

If it was me I would configure the scan with an exlusion for the TM folder and then simply clear the quarantine manager (not the clean up option).  That way they won't come back.  Example:
