Scans appear to stall or to have not run, but log shows otherwise

Hi All,

This isn't exactly a problem, but I thought that pointing it out might be helpful to some (especially the many that mention that their scans are always stalling).

I am running Sophos AV version: 8.0.16C; Threat detection engine: 3.45.0; Threat data: 4.91
on a (early 2011) Macbook Pro OS 10.8.4; 2.3 GHz, i5.

I have noticed a few times that a scheduled custom scan appears to "hang" or "stall" - sitting at Xnumber of "Items Remaining" for a long time on the interface window. After a while, the scan simply stops, both in the interface as well as in the menu bar and in the interface it will say that the last scan was run weeks ago. This appears to signal that the scan did not finish. When I check the log, however, it will show clearly that the scan was finished at the same time that it appeared to just stop running. Even after restarting the program or the computer itself, the interface continues to say that the last scan was weeks ago...contrary to the log.

I don't know if I should trust the log over the interface, but generally I do and that is why I do not really consider this a problem. But I do suppose that if there is a reason for this blip that Sohpos could probably figure out how to fix it. Maybe this could also cut down the number of complaints received about "slow" or "stalled scans." Perhaps many users think that their scans aren't finishing when they actually are.

Cheers,

X
