Unable to initialise virus detection engine

After upgrading to OS 10.8.3 I got messages about 'Sophos Anti-Virus cannot continue'.  I unistalled the application and re-intalled (Version 8.0.14C).  But when ever Sophos Anti-Virus attempts to do anything (example: Scan Local Drives) I get the same message.  Looking in the log file I keep seeing 'Unable to initialise virus detection engine'.  What do I need to do to get this working again?

    I am having similar issues and am very frustrated that there are no fixes with SO MANY problems with the OS X Version 10.8.3 release.  I cannot get the Anti-Virus to initialize or start running, On-Access Scanning DOES NOT WORK no matter how many SOPHOS updates are installed and updating via Preferences does not work with 'Preferences On-Access Scanner Failed to Set Preference' continuing to appear with the SOPHOS shield remaning grey and not in effect.  Anyone have any solutions to get it working???
