Console messages

Hi,

I'm completely new to this so please bear with me.

I've got everything setup and apparently working ok, but can someone explain to me what i'm supposed to do with the console messages?

There is a black square icon next to the Sophos icon in the dock and when i click on it i get messages like the following;

21/07/2012 01:43:49 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.InternetSharing) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Thanks

    The Console is where you get to see all the "behind the scenes" stuff logged by your computer in its day to day operations, and is installed by default in OS X.  That specific line is stating that the controller that manages internet sharing has been more active than it needs to be, so the launch system is scaling back how often it attempts to start up again.  This has nothing to do with Sophos, but is interesting material to read.

    That specific item is from the System Log; if you look at the list of other logs available in Console.app, you'll find Sophos logs, as well as logs for many other applications and system components.  Reading them can be a great way to learn about what your computer is actually doing behind the fancy graphics... but can get a bit tedious, as most of the logs are purely informative :)
