Mac Stopped Working

For the first time a box popped up saying Sophos has shut down. I was able to update, but cannot figure out how to restart, save maybe by a restart of machine.

How do I restart the free home edition?

    Thank you, Sandy.

    I restarted this morning and after one little blip it looks good.

    When the shield first appeared there was a black X over it and hovering got me "Could not contact primary server" with the shield greyed out.

    At that point I had already successfully brought up my browser which fetched my home page from the Internet.

    I then did a successful update of SAV and that worked, followed by the normal black shield.

    Seems OK now,
