How to suspend (not remove) Sophos

I have been trying to track down the cause of a mail crash and would like to disable Sophos from running temporarily.  Can't figure out how to do that without a full remove.

    Hello Rick,

    as long as it is installed the components will be loaded and running. You can turn off on-access scanning though by opening Preferences .... It could make a difference so it's worth testing. Another component with regular activity is AutoUpdate (although very unlikely to interfere with Mail) which also can be configured in Preferences.
